This is a notification to all of you who visit this blog.
Starting today, we began offering the portal site “Sharehouse” where you can search for sharehouses all over the world!
As a result of the globalization, things will be split across oceans and national borders, but as Japanese sharehouses are different, the market scale is difficult to grasp. With a change in language and living environment comes a change is what is needed, and there may be many things that our site does not address.

Even so, if people are able to come together and go about their daily lives, we think that the share lifestyle exists all around the world. Having a place to live in a community is important not just for people visiting a place for the first time, but for everybody in this age of increasing globalization. We have put a lot of thought into this and while we cannot say that things are 100% ready, we have taken the step of embarking on this new stage.

Thinking in that way, while it is easy to change course, actually experiencing a sharehouse overseas and if possible getting thoughts and opinions of hosts in various countries is important. Today, as we open the global version, I have come to Canada, and next weekend I plan to go to Seattle.

I have just started my activities overseas, but I have already come across many fresh and surprising things that I never saw in Japan. Conversely, I was able to discover that thought the countries vary the share lifestyle has a lot of things in common, and there have been lots of new things awaiting me.

A big party space in the backyard,

the living room attached the kitchen being open with a great feeling,

the rear garden is like a playground.

However, we still can’t say that sharehouses are without issues. There are limits on what we can do. Therefore, if you know of any study abroad students or overseas travelers that have said things like “That sharehouse was great” or “Thanks to my home stay I made lots of great memories when I studied abroad,” please introduce us to them or their hosts.

Along with the globalization activities, we are also able to introduce things from all over Japan. Soon we will cover as wide an area as possible from Hokkaido to Okinawa and introduce a lot of unique sharehouses, so please keep following our national version as well.

In the global version we will introduce a variety of places from all over the world, and while doing so we want to help people all over the world with their own activities.

We don’t know how many years it might take to achieve such a goal, but we hope you will take the journey with us.

We are pleased to announce to you today that Tokyo Sharehouse’s very own iPhone application is now available in Japanese and English.
（※Please download the English version from an English language App Store)

■Japanese version

https://itunes.apple.com/jp/app/tokyosharehouse/id649280000?l=ja&ls=1&mt=8

■English version
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tokyosharehouse/id649280000?l=ja&ls=1&mt=8

With our first iPhone app launch we focused heavily on its search functions, exceeding those of the website with a new method created to search for houses along train routes and in cities.

There is still a lot of room for improvement, but we’re over the moon to have our service available on the iPhone and also excited about working hard in the present to perfect our vision of the future.

It also appears that our app to search for sharehouses is a world first. That said, it is by no means an amazing feat. Attempting new things is not just exciting, it makes us recognize where our weaknesses lie and also realize that we have friends there supporting us along the way. With that in mind we will continue in our efforts and challenge ourselves beyond all frontiers.

Taking this announcement as an opportunity to recount the number of properties featured on our site, we found that we currently have 456 houses. If we include the applications received today we are very close to reaching the 500 property mark.

We are different from regular portal sites in that we list properties after physically visiting the houses and taking photos ourselves, and because of that the number of houses featured on our site won’t increase dramatically in one go, and there have been many times in which we have refused to list properties that don’t live up to our ideas of a safe and sound residence.

There was a time when we were told that operating an internet service is tedious and that its hard to experience even a little bit of success in business, yet looking back now we are proud to say that taking ourselves to over these properties, talking to the managers and taking our own photos to put on the site day in and day out has made our site into what it is today.

Our iPhone app has been created with the aim of making people who are thinking about living in a sharehouse or those who find living with others interesting a little bit more familiar with the shared living lifestyle, so if you have an iPhone you should definitely download and try it out.

Also, please let us know if you find any aspects hard to use or have any ideas to improve the app.

We are still a long, long way off from perfecting our service, and will continue in our efforts hoping that shared living will be the catalyst in creating many interesting a story.

We would like to announce that Tokyo Sharehouse’s event social networking service starts as of today! http://tokyosharehouse.com/jpn/event http://tokyosharehouse.com/jpn/event

It has almost been 1 year and 8 months since we began TOKYOSHAREHOUSE.COM.

Since then, we have not only received a great amount of hits on our site but also our opportunities to meet other people have increased, being invited to many events held by the managers and tenants of numerous sharehouses and making plans to hold sharehouse bus tours for school groups. We are very thankful for this and would like to express our gratitude.

This event service came about while discussing how to convey the merits of a sharehouse and the unique community within. Sharehouses are places where people live together with relative strangers, but before moving in nobody knows who they will be living with, or what kind of lives they are living, right?

We believe by a house holding events people can interact with those living there and get a feel for the mood of the house before moving in.

Sharehouse events usually involve a house viewing or house party, but it is also possible to hold lessons and seminars in the common areas with the tenants taking on the role of teacher, or for everyone to gather and create something together in a workshop. Our platform allows anyone to create an event along these lines, and for anyone to participate or comment on the post.
※For a more detailed explanation, please visit here.

We’re not saying that everyday is full of fun and excitement in a sharehouse. We ourselves are committed first and foremost to providing a portal site showcasing safe and comfortable sharehouses to the public, therefore we aim to work on this project without losing sight of our primary objectives.

That said, in speaking with a variety of industry professionals and people of all ages we received a lot of interest from those wanting to help out and before too long it was time to go live with our project, I am sure that there are people out there who will discover our platform and use it to put together an event of their own.

We hope that our service will influence people to add a little extra fun into their lives.

The design and functions of the service is the result of numerous discussions involving everyone working on the project, but as there is no point to a platform that isn’t user-friendly we will continue to make improvements based on the opinions of the users.

So, please don’t hesitate in contacting us if you find any aspects of the service hard to use or if you have any ideas for improvement.

We would also like to provide a platform for other interesting events as well, including co-working space events and other related ‘share’-themed events. Please let us know if you are unsure about any event ideas.

We will continue in our efforts hoping that shared living will be the catalyst in creating new encounters and interactions and would love to have you all there supporting us along the way.

Firstly I’d like to say thank you to our readers for always visiting the site.

We revamped http://tokyosharehouse.com today (11/25/14).

This is our first ever site overhaul since we went live, and we’ve organised data and updated the design taking into consideration ease of use, functionality and simplicity of layout in order for visitors to quickly find houses they are interested in. In updating the site we asked many sharehouse managers question after question and received valuable comments from their point of view, allowing us to implement the new configuration. I would like to take the time here to again thank everyone for their cooperation.

That said, there is still much room for improvement of the site and the way in which we convey the appeal of sharehouses. If you are currently living in a sharehouse, or are thinking about living in or managing one and you have any opinions or advice on what you would like to see included on the site or how we can make things easier for you, please don’t hesitate to let us know at info@tokyosharehouse.com.

We may not be able to implement every single idea, however we will endeavor to improve areas in which we are lacking in order to create a site that pleases as many people as we possibly can.

We will continue in our efforts hoping that shared living will be the catalyst in creating new encounters and interactions.

As of today, the English version of the share house and guest house portal – http://tokyosharehouse.com/eng – is up and running.

In recent years, share housing has grown increasingly popular in Japan, especially among those in their twenties and early thirties. Until now, the main draw has simply been affordable pricing, but now share houses are not only fully furnished, but are also host to events held by the share house management, in addition to the opportunity to immerse oneself in a foreign language and culture.

On the English version, rather than simply translating Japanese articles into English, we visit share houses personally, only publishing articles for those which offer housing for foreigners to ensure your stay in Japan is more enjoyable. We strive to provide users with accurate and up-to-date information regarding the many share houses in Japan making it easier to find housing

On our website, you’ll find articles offering an objective view of share houses and the managers’ policies, along with photos so that you can make an informed decision when selecting a share house. In addition, on the top page, you’ll find a map of the Tokyo metropolitan area in English, allowing for searches in a more specific area.

We believe, especially if you are from outside of Japan, share housing may serve as a platform for social networking where you can easily mingle with local people and expand your community. We hope you cherish every moment you spend with the people you encounter on your journey in Tokyo.

Thank you.
