Let’s go buy some tea cakes.

A brick house that looks like something out of an American movie or a wooden structure that looks like something out of a Japanese folktale. If the focus is on living in a house, many people would probably choose the latter. After all, we are Japanese, and the feeling of wood makes us feel gentle and at ease.

This time, we’d like to show you an old private house share house “Naka naka,” a good old Japanese wooden house that would look great with rice crackers and Japanese sweets.

It was originally used as a warehouse, but they’ve revitalized it as a women’s only share house with added comfort by equipping it with the latest appliances and facilities, while retaining the charm and quality of the facility.

The “Naka naka” is a 12 minute walk from the nearest station, Nerima, and has only 6 households. The name “Naka naka” was chosen by adding “ningben(ｲ)” to the character for “naka(中)” in Toyotamachu, which is the address, to mean gathering of people(仲).

In addition, Mr. Yokoyama is also involved in a project to revitalize classical private homes, and in order to bring the revitalization of old private homes to as many people as possible, he held a workshop to convert the “Naka naka” with a total of 17 people taking part. Everyone enjoyed the painting experience and other experiences that broadened their horizons.

This is a place that has been touched by the hands of many people. I have a feeling that along with a peaceful heart, good human relations and a relaxed lifestyle await.

So this time, we’ll be looking at an old private house share house with a good classical-fashioned “nostalgia” feeling, “Naka naka”. So let’s take a quick look.

classical private house x Stylish living room

The first thing we would like to show you is the main living space, which is located straight ahead through the entrance.

It is divided into three main areas, with the entrance on the far left in the photo. There is a space for watching TV, a resting area near the edge, and a stylish kitchen space.

The ingenious idea at the time of the conversion was to make sure the retro furniture matched the atmosphere of the classical private house. They reused items from the warehouse days as much as possible, and for other items as much as possible, they tried to find furniture that would not spoil the old private house feel.

It must have been difficult to find furniture with a stylish design that would not detract from the retro feel of the old house, and I can only imagine how much effort it must have taken to put the furniture together.

The warm-colored lighting is perfect for the retro look of the furnishings. The lighting was designed with warm orange and other warm colors in mind. When you visit, we hope you will take note of the lighting that creates a sense of nostalgia and coziness.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a rice cooker, microwave, and refrigerator, so you don’t have to prepare your own food, which is much more convenient than living alone.

And there are about three places to sit at the table in the front. If you want to spend time in such a place, you might want to prepare some stylish snacks and drinks, sit at the counter, and talk with each other without losing track of time.

Bringing a touch of “nostalgia” to your new life.

When actually stepping inside the old private house share house “Naka naka,” it was hard to believe that it was a classical private house, but rather a modern and fashionable property. The contrast between the traditional atmosphere of the classical and the modern appliances and equipment was most impressive, and although it doesn’t make any unnecessary claims, it’s a share house that makes the most of its individual qualities, giving the impression of careful attention to detail.

To put it another way, the house still retains the classical and unique flavor of a classical private house, but some people may feel that the flavor of a classical private house has been left behind too much. If you are considering moving in, it would be a good idea to take a look around the house to make sure you get a good feel for the property, including the exterior.

YOKOYAMA HOZEN, the owner of this old private house share house, says that his motto is not to pursue commercial profit, but rather to carefully create something better with the people with whom he has a relationship. The Naka House was completed with the help of acquaintances and friends.

The large garden over the porch and the Kyoto-like construction will make many people feel nostalgic and at ease, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this share house was completed thanks to the accumulated wisdom, experience, efforts, and thoughts of many people, including the workshops held in preparation for the completion of the facility. It’s no exaggeration to say that this share house was completed through the wisdom, experience, efforts, and thoughts of many people. It seems as if a sense of serenity continues to pervade the residents’ daily lives.

The classical house may be pleased to have someone who is looking for a relaxing Japanese-style space away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo live in it. I think it is a rare experience to spend time in such a place where people gather and enjoy living in a house where they can feel warmth. Only in a “Naka naka”.

An exciting lifestyle or a relaxed lifestyle. At first glance these two ways of living might seem opposite to one another, however it is possible for them to coexist depending on time, place and use of space.

However, it is said that for this to happen there must be a wide, spacious area in which to implement such an extravagant plan.

That’s where WHITE HOUSE Sakuradai comes into the picture, a female-only sharehouse 7-minutes walk from Sakuradai station on the Seibu Ikebukuro line. The house and characteristic garden is quite large with 21.43m² of shared living and gallery space, as well as a comfortable dining area to enjoy meals and cooking, the perfect place to divide your time between exciting events and relaxing times depending on the occasion.

It’s a place where you can organise events or home parties, exhibit works or hold workshops, to let your hair down a little more and really relax. It is the very epitome of luxury.

Without further ado, let’s have a look inside the house!!

Managing WHITE HOUSE Sakuradai is Team Sukima Japan. They create houses by developing thoughts and ideas that came about through their own experiences living in sharehouses, such as what would make a better house or what would make things even more fun, and after seeing this house’s spacious lounge and its private rooms, we’re sold on it.

Even though you might want to live in a relaxed, comfortable place, you still want a little bit of excitement and extraordinary experience that you don’t get a taste of in everyday life. You want to be able to divide your time between excitement and relaxation like an ON/OFF switch. If this sounds like you, then this house is your ideal place.

The company has opened another house in Asagaya, with a ‘secret hideout’ concept, simultaneously with this one. It is filled with figurines of popular manga characters and just being there makes your heart skip a beat and takes you back to your childhood. Tenants can even enjoy movies on a 100 inch screen in the co-working area. If you are interested please check out this link→http://tokyosharehouse.com/jpn/house/detail/773/

Putting yourself in such a big environment is quite strange as it causes changes to your mental state, which is a relatively positive thing. Today’s house, WHITE HOUSE Sakuradai, with its characteristic large garden and living space, allows its residents to relax and find peace of mind.

The place is X-Garden Sakuradai, a 10 minute walk from Sakuradai Station and a 12 minute walk from Shinekoda Station. Tucked away in a quiet residential area, we heard they’ve been looking for ambitious go-getters for their share house, and recently we had the chance to attend one of their events. Why are they recruiting these go-getters you ask? This share house was built on the concept of supporting those who want to make their goals a reality.

Whether they’re entrepreneurs, office workers, or students, they come here to learn about skills they’d like to acquire, foster relations with other ambitious individuals, and study diligently as they keep each other motivated. By living together, this share house hopes its residents can foster deeper connections with one another, cultivating people who will pave the way for a better future. Just the thought of this concept is quite exciting.

X-Garden Sakuradai has a conference room that can fit up to 40 people, and here professionals from various fields hold seminars on a regular basis. Having the opportunity to attend one of these seminars, we got a feel for the enthusiasm of the residents and all those who participated. So let’s take a look.

Here are a few shots of the outside and inside of X-Garden Sakuradai. The main lounge and kitchen are connected, and further inside there’s yet another lounge where you can have leisurely conversation with residents, as well as a comfortable living room to relax in.

The bottom right picture is the conference room equipped with a large screen and projector. It’s definitely on par with one’s you’d usually pay to use. When there are no seminars going on, it’s free to use as a work space for residents and non-residents alike. And of course, the room is complete with wireless internet and outlets.

Also, the rooms at X-Garden Sakuradai include all the essentials such as a bed, desk, and small refrigerator, as well as a unit bath and a mini-kitchen. As for size, they’re all spacious 12 tatami rooms, so even if you’re used to living alone, there’s no need to feel hesitant about moving in.

Now for the event. As we entered the conference room, preparations were well underway. The theme for the seminar was “A way of life for the next generation,” and the lecture was conducted by Haruaki Deguchi from the Lifenet insurance company. Taking a new approach to providing insurance, Lifenet has broken away from the traditional thinking of today’s insurance industry. In 2012’s Oricon customer satisfaction rankings, Lifenet has been at the top for medical insurance satisfaction for two years in a row, taking a great leap forward in the industry.

As head of the company, Mr. Deguchi’s goal is to provide inexpensive and serviceable insurance products and services that are easy to understand through honest business. And with a desire to create a society where the next generations insurance costs are halved, allowing people to raise kids with peace of mind, he’s a pioneer that’s taken the life insurance industry by storm. Captivating the audience from start to finish, he’s truly a man of great merit.

The event started with introductions by the event planner Masahiro Uchino, followed by Mr. Deguchi.

Immediately after introductions, Mr. Deguchi began his lecture. From the way he spoke he seemed gentle mannered, and the way he occasionally threw in a joke to keep things light hearted was very impressive. From the outside looking in, it was easy to see that everyone listening was being drawn in by his unique speaking style.

Here’s a shot of the lecture in its entirety. With everyone listening keenly to Mr. Deguchi’s lecture, he acknowledged their attentiveness looking about the room, making sure to give each and every person direct eye contact.

The way he progressed from point to point with a focus on statistics, facts, and logic was very impressive. As someone who tends to think very subjectively, there seemed to be a lot of points in the lecture that call for self-reflection.

After Mr. Deguchi’s lecture, they transitioned into a question and answer session. It was pretty surprising to see everyone eagerly raising their hands to ask questions.

The question and answer session kept a pretty quick pace as people instinctively got up from their seats to ask questions. I couldn’t help but be impressed by everyone’s desire to learn and experience new things.

When they wrapped up the question and answer session, we all moved to the lounge to enjoy a small social party. In an instant, people immediately gathered around Mr. Deguchi where they’d all exchange greetings and business cards.

Here everyone’s in line including me, waiting for a chance to talk with Mr. Deguchi, as he took time to talk one on one with everyone, answering all of our questions.

Greetings with all the participants were done, and we took a quick group photo before enjoying our drinks. You can tell everyone had a great time.

And with a toast, we began the party. After that everyone seemed a lot more relaxed.

Any tension or nervousness from before was gone, as everyone enjoyed lively conversation along with great snacks and drinks.

Here’s a shot of the event planner Mr. Uchino and Mr. Deguchi together. You can see a sense of relief in their demeanors now that the event’s over. It was really nice of them to provide such a great place for meaningful social exchange.

On the way out, there was a plate with “夢” (dream) written on it, and before I realized it I’d already taken a picture. It made me wonder if seeing that word, “dream”, everyday could help put goals within reach, like self-suggestion. It’s been said that the wife of Ryota Murata, who won the gold medal for middleweight Boxing in the London Olympics, wrote “Congratulations on your gold medal” on their refrigerator before he’d even gone to London. Perhaps seeing that on the refrigerator everyday gave him the mind-set he needed to win the gold medal.

Mr. Uchino, who manages the X-Garden sharehouse, has wanted to create a share house to foster entrepreneurs for a long time, and taking part in everything from the house planning to its opening, a part of his dream has finally come true. To hear about his level of dedication to the share house, it’s sure to become a place of reassurance for those who move in looking to take on new challenges.

Also, while the first line in the article emphasizes that this is a place to improve one’s skills, this isn’t to say it’s mandatory. This share house was made to be a place where people can feel inspired and to enjoy changes within themselves. There’s no rush to hit the ground after moving in, so one could say this house is for those looking to meet people who may inspire them and change their day to day routine.

I’ve heard they’re also planning some interesting presentations such as “Master a magic trick in 2 hours” or “Techniques to get people laughing.” I’m not the proactive get up and go type, so I’d also hope they have a lot of events planned where one can simply relax and enjoy what’s going on. After all is said and done, I definitely feel this event from X-Garden is the stuff that dreams are made of.

A share house without borders to connect you with the world：DK House Tokyo・Nerima

This time we’re going to introduce you to the large scale international share house “DK House Tokyo・Nerima” just a 5 minute walk from the Yurakucho line and Seibuikebukuro line.

There are no conditions based on gender or nationality, and it doesn’t matter if you’re a student or a working person. The only requirement is that you’re a person with good sense. Since this share house maintains 179 rooms in total, you can make a lot of friends living here. Also, because there are so many foreigners living here, it seems like international exchange is very active here.

The share house periodically holds events and throws parties, and with this many people living here, there’s no need to worry about whether or not things will be lively. While it’s great to be with friends who have the same values and can relate with you, don’t you think it’d be refreshing and stimulating to meet people with different values, customs, and different ways of thinking? I think it’s these differences that will lead you to take an interest in such people and want to know more.

While I’m sure there are those who will tire out from always being around so many people, all the rooms are individual rooms here, so you can lay back and relax in your own private space. For those who are moving in to the Tokyo area from the country side and find themselves with no friends or acquaintances, I highly recommend this share house.

So without further ado, let’s have a look at the rooms.

Main Lounge (1st floor)

At any rate, I think DK House Tokyo・Nerima is perfect for those who like to interact with people and want to enjoy the experience of always encountering new people.

Trilingual staff is always present, and being fully equipped with a security system you can move in with peace of mind. You can move in for periods as short as 3 months, so this looks like a great place even just to sample the share house life style if you’re interested.

When visiting, there was sense of security as if someone is always close by. In fact, when being shown around the share house there were residents walking about and we’d exchange greetings as we passed by. For those who are interested in DK House Tokyo・Nerima where you can always feel the warmth of people like this, click here for more information.

As we live, we encounter people, and through these encounters we communicate with others. One could say this is the very reason for the appeal of a share house. Because we live in a time where a connection with people is highly valued, I think it’s great to live a life where you “share” while helping others.
