Touch the world, the world grows: Flat Share KOIWA Campus

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Share House Report, Edogawa-ku

Starting Point of the International Exchange

With the development of LCC airplanes and such, these days, we can feel closer to the rest of the world than ever before. But in reality, with each day crammed with work and little time for anything else, there are few chances to go overseas. Or perhaps, without immunity, taking off to a foreign country is just unsettling.

It’s to these people that we’d like to present this share house: Flat Share KOIWA Campus. This share house has recently opened with the purpose of promoting international exchanges, and now it seems many foreign residents are already living here. For those of you thinking “I’d like to trying working, or living overseas, but…”, this place might give you a push in the right direction.

Now then, let’s take a look at the rooms!

Tall, Dark, and Modern: Yotsuya no Ie

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Share House Report, Unique house, Shinjyuku-ku

A Fusion of the Home and Office

Today we’ll be taking a look at Yotsuya no Ie, just a 3 minute walk from Yotsuya Sanchome Station along the Marunouchi Line. Whether you’re heading toward Tokyo or Shinjuku, you’ll have easy access from the station. Riding a bicycle, it’s only a 15 minute ride to hot spots such as Shibuya or Omotesando. You’ll find no better vantage point that puts the entire metropolitan area at your fingertips.

When speaking of Yotsuya, only office buildings come to mind for most, but you’d be surprised at the conveniences that can be found here. Just a five minute walk from the house is a Marusho supermarket open until 2 a.m., so even those who work late can pick up groceries for a nice home-cooked meal. There are also quite a few restaurants in the area for those who prefer to dine out.

While the house offers everything you need for day to day living, it’s also complimented with its very own workspace that can be leased for business purposes. The office was initially rented out to an interior design company, but since the space will soon be available, you can be sure we’ve included a sneak peek in our house review.

So without further ado, let’s take a look!

Share House Bus Tour (Part 1)

Event and Party Review, Unique house

A Journey for Share House Adventures

After much preparation and careful planning, we’ve come up with a new event that’s sure to turn heads. Until now we’ve written reviews showing you great share houses all across Tokyo, but rather than having you come to the share house, now we’ll have the share house come to you. On February 2, we had our first ever share house bus tour!

There were 20 people in attendance as we took a trip around Tokyo, with stops at several landmark-worthy share houses. While this was certainly no easy task, the tour was made possible in part by Urban, a college student organization and creator of the mail magazine Tenitoru.

Our destinations for the day included Couri018 Omori Higashi, Connect House Ikegami, and Chez toi Maluki. A fourth share house was also scheduled as a pleasant surprise for our passengers, but you’re going to have to keep reading to figure out our final destination.

So without further ado, let’s begin the tour!

A House on the Greener Side: Happiness Kashiwano

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Share House Report, Woman only

Reset and Refresh

Today I’ll be showing you around Happiness Kashiwano, just an 11 minute walk from Sawa Station along the Joban Line.

The location is relatively accessible area of Ibaraki Prefecture. Riding the train you can easily reach Kita Senju or Ueno with just one train, or take a 20 minute car ride to Mito Station. Near the house itself is a wonderful park as well as a large shopping mall and movie theater—all the makings of a great weekend.

Although it would be best to have a car to get around, even with just a bicycle you can reach fun places like the shopping mall. On your day off, you’re sure to be surprised at the fun things you can find nearby.

The house has a retro style from the Showa period, so while it may not be new, it has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The veranda unique to traditional Japanese-style homes is perhaps another one of the charms of this share house. As Western-style houses have become a standard in Japan, the chance to live in a house designed like this has become quite rare.

After a long day at work or school, this is the perfect place to relax and reset. With the great access this area lends to you, it will be no problem to go out and have fun on the weekend and be refreshed for the coming week.

Now let’s take a closer look at the house!

L’atelier: A Place to Call Home

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Share House Report, Setagaya-ku

The Start of Something New

Shimokitazawa is a town known for its vitality and fashion.

Even now this town is known for the many cultural influences that originated here in years past. Looking back, there have been many accounts of famous actors and musicians with humble beginnings on the streets of Shimokitazawa.

Naturally drawn here, inspired by the possibility of dreams fulfilled, the people who gather here make Shimokitazawa a place known for its lively atmosphere. And only a seven minute walk away from the train station, you’ll find today’s share house—L’atelier 113 Shimokitazawa. The living room, with its high ceiling, is the perfect place to relax, and the loft placed up above adds a certain charm you can’t find anywhere else.

As I show you around the house you can see for yourself, so let’s have a look.

Remember the Past and Embrace the Future:

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Event and Party Review, 住居人インタビュー

Live, Learn, and Grow: The Joys of a Share House

At long last, New Year’s Eve is finally here.

As friends and family gather, happily awaiting the stroke of midnight, it’s a time to celebrate a new year and the possibilities that lay before us. It’s also a time to reflect on the year that will soon fade into memory. Setting new goals and meeting those near forgotten, all the while taking to heart the lessons life teach from day to day.

Tokyo Sharehouse has also had its fair share of changes as we continue expanding, bringing more share houses together under one roof. With a successful site renewal, this has definitely been a year of great changes for us.

We’re constantly posting house reviews and event reports here on the site, but there are still those who wonder, “all the houses look great, but are people really having that much fun living in a share house?” And so, as we reflect on the passing year, we’d like to share with our readers an interview with two residents from Share Designer’s College Tama Plaza.

Although it was very sudden, they were more than happy to sit down and talk with us about us. Don’t take our word for it, read on and see for yourself the joys of share house living!

Where it All Begins:Guest Station Higashi-Nippori

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Share House Report, Woman only, Arakawa-ku

A Smart Design With a Woman’s Touch

Perhaps it’s the recent string of share houses we’ve visited recently, but one could easily be led to believe there’s been a sudden increase in women only share houses. Upon closer inspection, it’s simply the result of an expanding market.

Nevertheless, if you’re looking for colorful, girlish share houses, with gaudy interiors full of ornaments and fanciful decorations, they’re practically a dime a dozen. A more convetional, relaxed women’s share house, however, is something not so easily found.

With that said, today I’d like to show you around Guest Station Higashi-Nippori. Just a 10 minute walk from Nippor Station, this share house takes the focus away from girliness, resulting in a share house design I’d describe as cool or smart.

Nippori Station also gives access to a whopping 6 train lines including the ever popular JR Yamanote Line and a straight shot to Narita Airport, making this the ideal location for those who need to get around.

Now lets take a look at the rooms and see what this house has to offer.

Cross Share: A New Way to Share

TOKYO SHAREHOUSE, Event and Party Review, Minata-ku

The CROSS SHARE at Tabloid: A Community Event in a Community Space

Founded in April of 2010, TABLOID is a creative hot spot in Hinode where designers and artists share a work space to facilitate a new work style, and perhaps a new creative culture in the process. Rebita, the owner of ten share houses in the metropolitan area, has chosen this prime location to host CROSS Share – a collaborative share house event.

The theme for today’s event is “What do we really share in a share house?” The share culture has been steadily gaining influence in Japan, and not just with share houses. There are now various office buildings that have changed over to an “office share” model, as well as companies that promote car pooling with designated vehicles as an economic alternative to rental cars for their employees.

As their names suggest, share houses are places where people all live under the same roof, and you’d be a fool to think people simply keep to themselves. These places are about sharing time together with others. After attending this event, I also came to realize residents share something special — something special that makes every person and every house unique. But enough with the introductions. Let’s take a look at around so you can see what the buzz is about.
